As families, it’s easy to get caught up in doing for God, attending events, volunteering, checking off “spiritual” tasks, while neglecting the most important thing: being with God. True spiritual growth happens not in activity alone, but in the rhythms of life that intentionally draw us close to Him.
Take a moment to evaluate your family’s schedule and commitments. Are there activities that crowd out time to intentionally train your children in faith? Do you have space in your week to teach them about the goodness of God?
It’s worth remembering that the majority of Scripture, around 70%, reveals who God is and His goodness, while roughly 30% contains wisdom and correction. Families thrive spiritually when we prioritize exposing our children to God’s character and His love, rather than just filling their calendars with religious, school, or work obligations. Also consider teaching your children to observe God’s creation in nature.
Start small. Build simple rhythms; daily devotions, shared prayer, or even quiet time together, focused on experiencing God, not just doing for Him. These intentional moments cultivate a love for God that will outlast any activity on the schedule.
